David Jerome Porter, born April 21, 1956, is a Texas politician and accountant who served on the Texas Railroad Commission from 2011 to 2017. Originally a certified public accountant in Midland, he moved to Giddings after retiring. Raised in Fort Lewis, Washington, Porter graduated from Harding University in Arkansas in 1977. He became a CPA in 1981 and relocated to Midland that year, focusing his accounting practice on oil-related services. Porter was active in Midland’s community, serving on the Hospital District Board from 1989 to 1991. A Republican, he won the 2010 primary and went on to secure victory in the general election. During his time on the commission, he promoted initiatives such as the Texas Natural Gas Initiative. Recognized as “Man of the Year” and noted for his economic policies, Porter’s impact extended beyond Midland. He worked alongside Christi Craddick of Austin and Ryan Sitton of Friendswood on the Railroad Commission. As of 2021, Porter maintained ownership in a Texas oil and gas company.
