Mary Rivas Oaks, a cherished member of the Midland community, passed away on September 23, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on June 10, 1943, in Colorado City, Texas, Mary was welcomed by Maria and Julian Rivas. Moving to Midland in her youth, Mary attended Midland High School, where she was an esteemed member of the Bulldog band.

Mary was known for her strong work ethic, holding multiple jobs in the oil and gas industry. She found joy in the friendships formed through her involvement in the Desk and Derrick Club. In 1963, Mary welcomed her daughter Inez into the world, fostering a bond that became an enduring pillar of love and support in their lives.

In 1979, Mary met and fell in love with Bill Oaks, whom she eventually married in 1984. Together, they ran a successful business, Oaks Distributing Company, before embarking on a retirement filled with travel and music. Their shared faith led them to serve at Second Baptist Church of Midland.

Mary will be remembered for her vivacious spirit, kind heart, unwavering faith, and love for her family, dog Lexi, and rose garden. She is survived by her daughters, Traci Hiltz and Kim Smoke, as well as siblings, extended family, and caregivers who supported her in her final years.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 28, and the funeral service on Monday, September 29, both in Midland. Mary’s legacy of love and compassion will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Arrangements are under the care of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory in Midland. Online condolences can be shared at www.npwelch.com. Contributions in memory of Mary Rivas Oaks can be made through the Tribute Store.
