The Midland Independent School District Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on March 24, addressing progress on major construction projects, financial planning, and academic initiatives.

The meeting included updates on the district’s ongoing bond-funded renovations and new school construction. These developments are important as they impact the learning environment for students across multiple campuses and reflect the district’s efforts to address growth and facility needs.

Trustees heard that design work is complete for both new high schools. Construction at Midland High School is about 10.9% finished, with utilities and sitework underway, while Midland Lee High School is ahead of schedule at approximately 17.9% completion. Updates were also provided on elementary and middle school renovation packages, with varying degrees of progress reported—some nearing completion while others remain in early design phases. Notably, multi-purpose buildings at Alamo and Abell are scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2026.

The board approved several action items including Budget Amendment #8, a contract for bulk fuel supply (diesel and gasoline), a temporary working space easement for the new high school location, architectural firm selections for Bond 2023 Packages 12 (Carver Center/Young Women’s Leadership Academy) and 13 (John “Randy” Storie Middle School/Encore Academy), as well as reallocation of funds from canceled renovations to support the Encore Academy program.

Additionally, trustees voted to approve K-5 RLA Bluebonnet Learning instructional materials beginning in the 2026-27 school year. The board also approved the Targeted Improvement Plan for IDEA Travis after holding a public hearing about campus performance expectations set by state education authorities. Further authorization was given to negotiate revisions to IDEA Travis’s contract starting with the next academic year.

The next regular monthly board meeting will take place April 21 at Bowie Fine Arts Academy. Meetings continue to be streamed live online through midlandisd.net/stream.
