Midland, Texas – Patsy Jean Hill, a beloved nurse and educator, passed away in Midland, Texas on September 4, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in Breckenridge, Texas, on December 20, 1933, to Ruth and Samuel Hill, Patsy dedicated her life to the nursing profession, leaving behind a legacy of service, excellence, and compassion.
After graduating from the City County Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Worth in 1954, Patsy continued her education, earning advanced degrees and certificates. Throughout her 39-year nursing career, she held various roles in operating rooms and emergency rooms nationwide, including Odessa, Abilene, Redwood City, and San Jose.
Transitioning to teaching, Patsy advanced the field of surgical technology by developing the first non-military educational program for operating room technicians in Texas. She inspired her students to pursue further education, contributing to the growth and advancement of the profession. Patsy’s dedication to her students as a teacher and mentor left an indelible mark on their professional journeys.
A member of esteemed nursing societies, Patsy was recognized for her leadership and expertise in operating room nursing. She served as president of local nursing associations, participated in national nursing congresses, and contributed to accrediting programs across Texas. Respected by colleagues and students alike, she was known for her commitment, knowledge, and generosity.
Outside of nursing, Patsy’s passion for baking and caring for loved ones, alongside her friend Billie Hightower, exemplified her selflessness and nurturing spirit. Her involvement in her church and community underscored her values of faith and service, guiding her life’s work and relationships.
In memory of Patsy Jean Hill, her family and friends honor the legacy of a dedicated nurse, gifted educator, and compassionate caregiver. At Patsy’s request, no formal services will be held to commemorate her life.
