Congressman August Pfluger of Texas’s 11th District expressed support for President Donald Trump’s recent decision to activate the D.C. National Guard and federalize the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. The move is intended to bolster local law enforcement and address rising crime rates in the nation’s capital.

“For years, liberal soft-on-crime policies have devastated countless innocent families and individuals in our nation’s capital—with D.C. ranking among the most dangerous cities in America. Thankfully, these policies end now. I commend President Trump’s bold action in using his authorities to crack down on rampant crime and lawlessness in Washington, D.C. to make it safe again. Congress must support these efforts and stand ready to utilize our clear constitutional authority over D.C. if greater action is necessary to restore public safety,” Pfluger said.

August Pfluger has served as a member of the U.S. Congress since 2021, representing Texas’s 11th District after succeeding Mike Conaway (https://www.pflugertx.gov/Directory.aspx?EID=115). He won his seat by defeating Jon Mark Hogg in the 2020 general election with nearly 80% of the vote.
