Rep. August Pfluger, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 11th district since 2021, has recently used his social media platform to address the ongoing government shutdown and its implications, attributing responsibility to Democrats while emphasizing House Republicans’ efforts to keep the government operational.

On October 2, 2025, Rep. Pfluger stated: “Two weeks ago, @HouseGOP voted to keep the government open. Now, Democrats need to come to their senses and come to the table. The longer a shutdown goes on, the worse it is for our population. I joined @MaryKate_CBS7 to discuss the implications of the Democrat shutdown.”

The following day, October 3, he reiterated his position: “House Republicans acted two weeks ago and voted to fund the government. Democrats need to come to their senses and reopen the government for our servicemembers, federal employees, and hardworking families. I joined @newswest9 to discuss how the Democrat shutdown will affect”.

Later that same day, Rep. Pfluger added: “The Democrat shutdown will not stop me from serving Texas-11. This week, I had the privilege of meeting with local agricultural producers to share updates from Washington. I will always champion common-sense policies that help our farmers and ranchers feed and clothe the world.”

August Pfluger began serving in Congress after winning election in 2020 against Jon Mark Hogg by a significant margin—securing nearly 80% of votes—and replacing Mike Conaway as representative for Texas’s 11th district in January 2021.

Government shutdowns have historically resulted from disagreements between parties over federal funding legislation; such events can impact federal employees, military personnel, and public services nationwide.
