Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) addressed the House of Representatives to recognize the efforts of two Texas National Guard units that responded to severe flooding in Central and West Texas on July 4th.
Pfluger highlighted the actions of Lieutenant Colonel Jordan Boyd, a San Angelo native and Commander of the 449th Aviation Support Battalion, along with the 108th Assault Helicopter Battalion based in Austin and the 149th General Support Helicopter Battalion from San Antonio.
“These units are extraordinary. On the morning of July 4, as flood waters devastated Central and West Texas, these two units immediately jumped into action and have not stopped since then. Knowing many of the stranded were children, these crews pushed themselves to every imaginable limit, flying through adverse weather to reach Camp Mystic and the entire Guadalupe River. Their daring efforts saved 366 lives that day and reunited hundreds of families,” Pfluger said.
He continued: “And I want to say thank you, not just to the pilots, but also to the maintainers, the support personnel, and all of the people in the Texas National Guard who have just shown immense heroism over the past few months. And can’t say thank you enough for their heroic efforts. I yield back.”
August Pfluger has represented Texas’s 11th District in Congress since replacing Mike Conaway in 2021. He won his seat after defeating Jon Mark Hogg in the general election with nearly 80% of votes.
