Congressman August Pfluger of Texas’s 11th district has expressed support for the Trump administration’s recent announcement aimed at accelerating and reducing the cost of biosimilar drug development. In a statement, Pfluger said, “Today’s announcement to make biosimilar development faster and less costly is a major victory in the fight to lower prescription drug prices and expand access for all Americans. As Secretary Kennedy noted, ‘Parents are facing heartbreaking choices between paying for medication or putting food on their tables. This is not acceptable in the United States of America.’ I am proud to stand with the administration on this effort. Senator Lee and I have introduced bipartisan legislation that directly aligns with today’s announcement by automatically deeming all biosimilars as interchangeable upon FDA approval and eliminating the unnecessary switching studies that delay patient access. The administration has called on Congress to act, and I’m ready to deliver. Let’s get this done and ensure more Americans can access life-saving medications without facing financial burdens.”

Earlier this year, Representatives Pfluger and Greg Landsman introduced bipartisan legislation known as the Biosimilar Red Tape Elimination Act. The bill aims to lower prescription drug prices by ensuring biosimilar drugs are considered interchangeable with name-brand counterparts upon FDA approval, thus increasing competition in the biological drug market.

Pfluger began representing Texas’s 11th district in Congress after winning his seat in 2020 against Jon Mark Hogg with nearly 80% of the vote. He succeeded Mike Conaway when he took office in 2021.
