Midland, Texas – Romelia “Romie” Flores Duran Carrasco, age 77, passed away on October 8, 2025, in Midland, Texas. Born on November 16, 1947, in Ojinaga, Mexico, to Juan “Caramelo” Hinojos Duran and Maria O’tila Flores Duran, Romelia was known for her warm heart, hospitable nature, and love for her family.

Throughout her life, Romelia found joy in cooking, tending to her plants, watching “novelas,” and spoiling her grandchildren. She dedicated herself to the food industry, serving customers with care and diligence as a waitress before realizing her dream of owning Romie’s Mexican Restaurante from 1997 to 2015.

She is survived by her husband, Francisco “Pancho” Venegas Carrasco, her siblings Robert Duran and Rachel Nicholas, her children Oscar Franco, Cesar Franco, and Elizabeth Rowell, her granddaughters Amber Smith, Abigail Alsup, Lauren Sanchez, Jessica Franco, Victoria Franco, Alexandria Varnam, and Lillian Rowell, as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Romelia was preceded in death by her father Juan “Caramelo” Hinojos Duran, her mother Maria O’tila Flores Duran, and her sister Ramona “Mona” Thurman.

Public viewings will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, and Monday, October 13, 2025, at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, followed by burial at Serenity Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will include family members and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Romelia’s memory.
