ODESSA – The Ector County Clerk's office is closed until further notice.
Due to the coronoavrius pandemic (COVID-19), the Ector County Clerk's office has decided to remain closed starting on March 17, 2020. The office currently doesn't know when it will reopen to the public.
The clerk's office has given suggestions on how to obtain documents and licenses while the office remains closed.
If an individual needs a birth or death certificate, they can be purchased with a mail-in application. The mail-in application is available of the Ector County Clerk's website.
Other forms that are available online are Blank Assumed Name/DBA forms. The forms must be mailed in with the fees associated with them.
Marriage licenses can be issued but only with an appointment. Individuals should call the clerk's office to make an appointment. Appointments can only be made if the marriage ceremony plans to be held within one week of calling the office.
To purchase copies of deeds, individuals should go to the Land Records Portal, which is on the website. Certified copies of deeds can also be bought on the portal.
Residents can also pay fines, court costs, reimbursement fees and tickets online. Individuals will also have the option to mail in their payment if they are on a payment plan or are planning on paying it in full. The Ector County Compliance website has more information on paying fines, costs and other fees.
Individuals can also access payment plan applications and plea forms online. They must submit an email address when accessing the forms, which will be used for processing.
The County Clerk's office will be staffed even while closed to the public. Employees will help assist other county offices when needed. The office will keep processing court filings by using the Texas eFile System. It will also continue to process mail requests and answer calls and emails.
Customers can meet face-to-face at the clerk's office, but only after a scheduled hearing takes place.
