The Railroad Commission of Texas has reported that oil and gas production totals in Midland County increased in March.
Preliminary numbers indicate that 14,081 million barrels of oil were produced during the month in the county and gas registered at 39.774 million mcf, the Midland Reporter-Telegram reported.
The Permian Basin is home to eight of Texas’ Top 10 producing counties. The Basin counties together produced 54.11 million barrels, or half of the total.
Midland surged past Webb County to land in second place in terms of gas production. Only Reeves County is ahead of Midland.
The Basin had been in the midst of a downturn because of historically low oil prices and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As of June 14, however, West Texas Intermediate crude was trading for $36.26 per barrel.
