An accurate Census count in the Permian Basin is essential to ensure the region continues to receive adequate federal funding.
Census results influence many areas, including healthcare, education, transportation, infrastructure, employment and representation.
In research commissioned by the Permian Strategic Partnership, The Perryman Group conducted an economic impact study of what the ramifications would be if 2% of Permian Basin residents were not counted. The study shows that over the next 10 years, a 2% undercount would result in 13,135 lost jobs, a $1.1 billion loss in gross product, and a $52.9 million loss to local government.
The Census determines where tax money is spent. An accurate representation of the community helps direct federal funding towards programs that are important to local citizens.
Traditionally, accurate counts in the Permian Basin have been difficult to obtain because of the migratory workforce and the number of people who live in rural oilfield housing communities.
