The City of Odessa has received a July sales tax check for just more than $3.78 million.
Sales tax checks are received monthly. They are for the sales tax paid by consumers for the previous month. For example, Odessa gets the sales tax check for May In June.
The report states the City of Odessa is getting a check for $3.02 million while the Odessa Development Corp. is getting a check for just over $756,000.
According to city officials, reports saw a reduction in sales tax revenue with July’s sales tax revenue. However, it appears that sales are going back up in the coming months. In July 2019, sales tax checks issued were more than $1.7 million more than in 2020.
Additionally, the 2019-20 tax totals received are below the previous fiscal year-to-date amount by a staggering $7.47 million. With restaurants and retail chains starting to reopen, sales tax totals are expected to go back up.
