State Rep. Brooks Landgraf (R-Odessa) has joined Gov. Greg Abbott in opposing the defunding of police.
“The men and women who risk everything to protect and serve deserve our respect and gratitude,” Landgraf said. “It is without hesitation that I pledge to oppose any attempt to defund law enforcement in Texas.”
Abbott is calling on state leaders to support the "Back the Blue" effort against defunding police.
“Part of our job as state leaders is to ensure the safety and security of all Texans, and we will not allow that core function to be undermined by cities that de-fund the police who protect and serve our communities,” Abbott said.
He also announced proposed legislation that would strip cities of their annexation powers if they defund police. It would also allow citizens to vote on de-annexing from the cities.
“Cities have a responsibility to protect public safety, and this new proposal would discourage city leaders from taking the dangerous action of defunding law enforcement,” Abbott said. “We need all Texans and all candidates running for office to join our cause to support law enforcement and keep Texans safe.”
He urged others to back efforts against police defunding.
“We need all Texans and all candidates running for office to join our cause to support law enforcement and keep Texans safe,” the governor said.
