Dawson County schools enrolled 1,674 students who identified as economically disadvantaged in the state during the 2021-22 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of the 2,268 students enrolled in Dawson County schools, 73.8% were considered economically disadvantaged. This is a 4.3% decrease from the previous school year.

Dawson County enrolled the 111th lowest number of students identified as economically disadvantaged among Texas counties.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they're offering better education for more Texas students.
