Congressman August Pfluger has introduced a new bill that aims to expel Hamas-supporting visa holders from the United States. The bill, known as The Terrorist Inadmissibility Codification Act (H.R. 6200), would expand current U.S. law to prohibit members, officers, officials, representatives, and spokesmen of Hamas, Hezbollah, Al-Qaeda, ISIS, and Palestine Islamic Jihad from entering or remaining in the country. It would also apply to aliens who endorse or espouse terrorist activities conducted by any of these U.S.-designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO).
The introduction of this bill comes in response to the recent pro-Hamas demonstrations that took place across the U.S. following the October 7th terrorist attacks in Israel. Congressman Pfluger expressed his concern over the open support for Hamas terrorists in the country, stating, "It is appalling to see thousands of people across the United States openly supporting the Hamas terrorists who waged a brutal war on Israeli citizens." He emphasized the need to prevent individuals who support terrorism or have connections to terrorist affiliates from entering the United States.
The bill has garnered support from several original co-sponsors in the House of Representatives, including Representatives Michael McCaul, Chip Roy, and Michael Guest. Senator Marco Rubio has also introduced companion legislation in the Senate. Senator Rubio stressed the importance of national security and urged for the prohibition of foreign nationals seeking to harm the United States, saying, "Foreign adversaries and terrorist sympathizers have no place in America. As we continue to face an increase in pro-Hamas sentiment, it's in our national security interest to ensure foreign nationals seeking to harm our nation are prohibited entry. Those that are already here must be removed."
The proposed legislation aims to strengthen border security and protect the American people from potential threats. It builds upon current laws that explicitly prohibit members of certain groups, such as the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), from entering the country. Congressman Pfluger highlighted the need to expand this prohibition to include other groups, stating, "The PLO is not the only group that should be banned in our nation."
The bill text is available for public review, and it is now up to President Biden and Congress to take action to ensure the security of the nation's borders. As the United States faces ongoing threats from terrorist organizations, it is crucial to strengthen measures that prevent individuals with ties to terrorism from entering and remaining in the country. The introduction of The Terrorist Inadmissibility Codification Act is a significant step towards achieving this goal and safeguarding the American people.
