Representatives August Pfluger and Ronny Jackson have introduced legislation to prevent the implementation of a Remain-in-Texas policy for illegal aliens crossing the border. The bill aims to prohibit Secretary Mayorkas from enforcing this policy, which the Biden administration is reportedly considering.
Texan representatives are expressing their strong opposition to the proposed policy. Rep. Pfluger stated, "Texans will not stand for any Remain-in-Texas plan from the Biden Administration to force our state to bear the brunt of the President’s self-made border crisis." He criticized liberal sanctuary cities for obstructing federal immigration laws and argued that they should not be immune to the border crisis.
Rep. Jackson also voiced his concerns about the impact of open border policies. He emphasized that Texas should not have to bear the burden of liberal border policies that harm Americans and disrupt their way of life. He condemned the hypocrisy of politicians who advocated for sanctuary cities but now want to force illegal immigrants to stay in Texas.
The bill has garnered support from various organizations, including the Texas Public Policy Foundation, Heritage Foundation, Federation for American Immigration Reform, and NumbersUSA. Greg Sindelar, CEO of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, criticized President Biden for attempting to shield sanctuary cities from the consequences of their open-border policies. Sindelar stated, "Texas has been abandoned by the federal government, and we must do whatever is necessary in our fight against this coordinated assault on our state and country."
Ryan Walker, Executive VP of Heritage Action, called on Congress to pass the bill to secure the border and push back against failing sanctuary city policies. Joe Catham, President of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, argued that a Remain-in-Texas policy is an attempt by President Biden to have it both ways on immigration. Catham believes that this bill will ensure that the burden of open-border policies is shared by all Americans.
The legislation has also gained support from a significant number of representatives, including Jake Ellzey, Brian Babin, Pat Fallon, and many more. These representatives cosponsored the bill, demonstrating their commitment to addressing the concerns raised by Pfluger and Jackson.
As the debate on immigration policies continues, the introduction of this legislation highlights the growing opposition to a Remain-in-Texas policy. The bill's sponsors and supporters are determined to protect the interests of their state and ensure that the consequences of open-border policies are shared by all Americans.
