Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX) has joined Rep. Randy Feenstra (IA-04) in introducing the Death Tax Repeal Act, a legislation aimed at permanently repealing the death tax. The death tax is a burden that imposes an unfair and costly tax on the transfer of property, land, and other assets from a deceased family member to heirs of family farms and small businesses.
In support of the legislation, Rep. Pfluger stated, "Only the federal government would look at death as an opportunity to tax hardworking business, land, and home owners. Last Congress, I proudly put an end to President Biden's new, second death tax that would have devastated rural America. Now it is time to kill the death tax once and for all. I applaud Rep. Randy Feenstra for his leadership on this effort."
Rep. Feenstra also emphasized the negative impact of the death tax on families, particularly in Iowa. He said, "The death tax represents double taxation at its worst. Iowa families grieving the loss of a loved one should not face an enormous tax bill from the federal government just to continue the family tradition of farming or keep their small business open and operational. I’m proud to lead 162 of my colleagues to permanently repeal the death tax, ensure that hardworking families, farmers, and small businesses keep more of their hard-earned money, and strengthen family-owned-and-operated enterprises in Iowa."
The aim of the Death Tax Repeal Act is to eliminate the death tax and provide relief to hardworking families, farmers, and small business owners. By fully eliminating the death tax, the legislation seeks to protect family-owned enterprises, prevent foreign entities like China from acquiring farmland, and encourage the next generation of farmers and business owners to invest in rural areas.
The introduction of this legislation reflects the ongoing efforts of Rep. Pfluger and Rep. Feenstra to address the concerns of their constituents and promote economic growth in their respective districts.
