WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) has voted in the House Homeland Security Committee to advance the Articles of Impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the full House of Representatives. The decision comes as a result of Secretary Mayorkas' alleged refusal to comply with the law and Congressional directives, leading to what Pfluger describes as the "worst border crisis in history."

In his opening statement, Rep. August Pfluger expressed his concerns about Secretary Mayorkas' actions, stating, "Secretary Mayorkas has willfully and systemically refused to comply with the law, adhere to Congressional directives, and secure the homeland—leading to the worst border crisis in history. It is a sad day when Congress is left with no option but to impeach a cabinet secretary, but there must be consequences for the Secretary's refusal to protect the safety of American citizens."

Pfluger emphasized the need for accountability and the importance of securing the border, citing the case of the Tambunga family from his district who tragically lost their loved ones in a car crash involving a human trafficker smuggling illegal aliens. He stated, "I’m here today to see Secretary Mayorkas held accountable for creating a detrimental domino effect that took Emilia and Maria from them."

The Articles of Impeachment presented by Pfluger include charges of "Willful and Systemic Refusal to Comply with the Law" and "Breach of Public Trust." Pfluger argued that these charges are serious and readily provable, highlighting that an impeachable offense does not need to be an indictable offense but rather a serious offense against the public trust.

Pfluger also criticized Secretary Mayorkas for failing to detain or deport known or suspected terrorists, stating, "Under the watch of Secretary Mayorkas, there are some running free in our communities. It is that type of behavior that brings us here today and puts the American people and our democracy at risk."

The congressman urged his colleagues to consider the constitutional implications of the Secretary's actions, emphasizing that this is not a mere policy difference but a question of national sovereignty. Pfluger questioned whether the Secretary has the authority to allow millions of people to enter the country in direct contradiction to the laws enacted by Congress, calling it an extreme position and an affront to the Constitution.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Pfluger expressed his regret that such actions were necessary, stating, "I wish we weren’t here today. I wish Maria and Emilia were home in Texas today. But we are here doing our work on this solemn and serious occasion. This is a last resort."

The vote in the House Homeland Security Committee marks a significant step in the impeachment process against Secretary Mayorkas. The full House of Representatives will now consider whether to proceed with the Articles of Impeachment and potentially remove the Secretary from office.
