House Energy Action Team Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11) and 55 House Republicans have sent a letter to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan expressing concerns about the EPA's proposed methane fee. In the letter, the House Republicans stated, "The EPA's proposed rules blatantly violate Congressional intent and create an unworkable regulatory structure for oil & gas producers."
The letter emphasized the importance of regulatory compliance exemptions for oil and gas facilities that are adhering to specific requirements. The lawmakers urged the EPA to narrow the definition of compliance and promptly grant exemptions. They called on the EPA to "go back to the drawing board and develop supplemental proposed rules for the WEC and Subpart W that are consistent with Congressional intent, allow accurate GHG emissions reporting using a variety of technologies, and do not unfairly levy additional costs on both American energy consumers and producers."
Among the cosigners of the letter are Representatives Robert E. Latta (OH-5), Russ Fulcher (ID-1), Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14), and a host of other lawmakers from various states across the country. The letter sent to Administrator Regan urges the EPA to reconsider its approach to the methane fee to ensure fairness and practicality for the oil and gas industry.
The full list of cosigners includes a wide range of representatives, such as Elise Stefanik (NY-21), Greg Pence (IN-6), Dan Crenshaw (TX-2), and Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), among many others. The collective call for a revision of the methane fee implementation underscores the significant concerns held by these lawmakers regarding the current regulatory framework proposed by the EPA.
