WASHINGTON, DC — Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Congressman August Pfluger's legislation permanently freezing all Iranian-sanctioned assets, including the $6 billion in funds that the Biden Administration unfroze on September 11, 2023, and prohibits the President from using any waiver authority, including licenses, guidance, or FAQs, to lift sanctions.
In a statement following the passing of the bill, Rep. August Pfluger emphasized the importance of taking a strong stance against terrorism and supporting Israel. He stated, "Americans deserve leaders who unequivocally stand against terror and with our ally Israel, not those who facilitate Tehran’s access to billions of dollars."
Rep. Pfluger also criticized President Biden's foreign policy decisions, highlighting the negative impact they have had on national security and U.S. allies. He mentioned, "His strategy of appeasement has made our country less safe and emboldened our adversaries to attack U.S. allies around the world."
The Congressman recounted a specific incident on September 11, 2023, where the Biden Administration unfroze $6 billion in Iranian assets, which he described as a misguided move that ultimately led to increased aggression from Iranian-backed groups. He pointed out, "It is no coincidence that shortly following this foreign policy fiasco, the Iranian-backed terror group Hamas was emboldened to launch a barbaric attack against our Democratic ally Israel."
Rep. August Pfluger's bill aims to prevent such occurrences in the future by permanently freezing Iranian-sanctioned assets and limiting the President's authority to lift sanctions. He urged his colleagues to support the legislation, emphasizing the need to cut off financial resources to Iran's war efforts and to protect Israel.
