Winkler County schools enrolled 54 students who were identified as being gifted and talented during the 2022-23 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

This is a 10% decrease from the previous school year.

Of the 1,805 students enrolled in Winkler County schools, 3% of them were considered to be gifted and talented.

Winkler County enrolled the 61st lowest number of gifted and talented students among Texas counties.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
