Congress commemorates centennial birthday of President George H.W. Bush

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) and Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced a concurrent resolution commemorating the 100th birthday of President George Herbert Walker Bush and honoring his service to the nation.

"President George H.W. Bush is an inspiration to all Texans," said Congressman Pfluger. "He dedicated his life to serving our country in an incredible number of capacities—as a decorated naval aviator who saw combat in World War II, U.S. Representative for the 7th Congressional District of Texas, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Director of Central Intelligence, Vice President, and President of the United States, as well as many impactful initiatives in his personal life. He left an incredible legacy and his work continues. It is an honor to commemorate June 12th, the 100th birthday of President George H.W. Bush."

“George H.W. Bush was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he was a devoted public servant who fought to defend our freedoms and bravely led our nation at the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall,” said Senator Cornyn. “President Bush showed us that you can be both a good man and a great leader, and I’m proud to honor this true statesman on what would have been his 100th birthday.”

In the House, the resolution was co-sponsored by Representatives Kay Granger (TX-12), Pete Sessions (TX-17), Jake Ellzey (TX-6), Morgan Luttrell (TX-8), Roger Williams (TX-25), Brian Babin (TX-36), Pat Fallon (TX-04), Michael McCaul (TX-10), Randy Weber (TX-14), Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07), Dan Crenshaw (TX-02), Nathaniel Moran (TX-01), Ronny Jackson (TX-13), Beth Van Duyne (TX-24), Lance Gooden (TX-05), Dr. Michael Burgess (TX-26), Keith Self (TX-03), Jodey Arrington (TX-19), Don Bacon (NE-2), Stephanie Bice (OK-05), Mike Lawler (NY-17), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA 01), Sam Graves (MO-06) and Byron Donalds (FL-19).

Senate co-sponsors include Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Susan Collins(R-ME) and Steve Daines(R-MT).

The text of the resolution reads:

Recognizing the life, achievements, and public service of former President George H.W. Bush on the occasion of his 100th birthday.

Whereas on June 12, 1924, George Herbert Walker Bush was born in Milton Massachusetts;

Whereas George H.W. Bush enlisted in the United States Navy as a naval aviator on his 18th birthday eventually flying his first combat mission in May 1944 bombing Japanese-held Wake Island;

Whereas George H.W. Bush was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross for his role in Chichi Jima where he successfully bailed from his aircraft evaded capture;

Whereas George H.W.Bush retired from The Navy having flown fifty-eight active missions completed one hundred twenty-eight career landings recorded twelve hundred twenty-eight hours flight time;

Whereas George H.W.Bush enrolled at Yale College where he graduated two half years;

Whereas college captained Yale baseball team played first two College World Series;

Whereas married Barbara Pierce January sixth nineteen forty-five had six children;
