Richard Watts, Esteemed Banker and Community Leader, Passes Away at 82

Midland, TX - Richard Charles Watts, 82, a prominent figure in the banking industry and a dedicated community leader, passed away on August 9, 2024, in Midland, Texas. Born on August 14, 1941, to Floyd B. and Emma Ruth Watts, Richard's Memorial Services will take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church in Seminole at 11:00 a.m. and at Manor Park Chapel in Midland at 3:00 p.m.

Richard's career spanning over 55 years in banking began humbly as a janitor at a Savings and Loan in Denton, Texas. Rising through the ranks, he eventually served as President, Executive Vice President, and Director at West Texas National Bank before retiring in 2011. Known for his strong leadership, Richard held various positions in organizations like the Seminole Hospital District, Seminole Rotary Club, and Seminole Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his professional achievements, Richard was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, motorcycle riding, and tennis. His love for his family was evident in the time he spent with them.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, brother, Joe Pat, and daughter, Kathryn Kyle Hicks. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Watts; brother, Mike Watts, and wife Fanny; grandchildren, Richard Hicks, Kristen Gardner, and her husband Chad; and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Davis, and Briley Gardner.

In honor of Richard Watts, memorial donations can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Parkinson's Foundation or a charity of choice.
