Carlsbad, NM - Connie Dair Mahaffey, fondly referred to as "Gran" by many, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the age of 86. Born on August 29, 1938, in Superior, West Virginia, to Walter Moore and Ethel Mae Bishop, Connie's life was marked by her unwavering love and dedication to her family.

As the eldest of thirteen children, Connie naturally stepped into the role of caretaker early in life, showing immense pride in caring for her siblings. She married Robert Mahaffey Sr. in 1955 and raised their three children, Robert Jr., Nancy, and Paula, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Gran's compassion and strength were evident in her role as a homemaker and a beloved mother.

Throughout her life, Connie's faith and resilience were tested during times of hardship, including caring for her children Paula and Bobby during their battles with cancer. Despite facing heartbreaking losses, Connie remained a pillar of strength for her family, always putting their needs above her own. Her servant's heart extended to caring for grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and maintaining her devotion to the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys.

Connie is survived by her daughter, Nancy Whittemore and husband Garry, brother Fred Bishop, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, two daughters, two sons, and her son Robert Jr.

A funeral service to celebrate Connie's life will be held on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel, with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
