Billy Kirk Powell, born on November 5, 1944, in Kermit, Texas, passed away on June 26, 2024. Following a 35-year career with the Texas Highway Department, where he dedicated himself to service, Billy retired in August 2003. Known for his love of Stanton Buffaloes football and sports, he supported his local community through his involvement in the First Baptist Church of Stanton and the Stanton Lions Club.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton, with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Stanton. Interment will follow at Resthaven North Cemetery in Midland at 1:00 p.m.

Billy, affectionately referred to as the "quarter man," was a generous soul known for sharing state quarters and $2 bills with family, friends, and acquaintances. He will be remembered for his love and kind-hearted nature. He is survived by his wife Judy, sisters Mary Bellah and Kay Simpson, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Martin Co. Senior Center, First Baptist Church–Building Fund, or Interim Hospice. Arrangements are under the care of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton. Online condolences can be shared on their website.
