James Carl Cooper | Ellis Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park

Mesquite, Texas - James Carl Cooper, known as "Coop", passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 16, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old. James was born on June 24, 1941 in Stafford, Kansas.

After graduating from Midland High School in 1959, James served in the Navy aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. He received an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his service during the Vietnam armed conflict. James married Josie Burrow Cooper in 1966, and they had two children.

A longtime mail carrier with the US Postal Service, James received commendations for safe driving and workplace excellence during his 38-year career. He and Josie were active members of Baptist church communities before moving to Mesquite in 2020, where they were part of Parkside Baptist Church.

Known for his humor and love of family, James is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Charles, Doug, Keith, and Kay Cooper.
