Ronnie Ray Montgomery, 77, Veteran and Musician, Passes Away in Odessa

Odessa, TX - Ronnie Ray Montgomery, 77, of Midland, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in Odessa. Born on February 17, 1947, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Ron was a graduate of Permian High School and proudly served in the US Navy and later as a medic in the US Marine Corps, earning honors including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam.

After his military career, Ron worked at Agri-Empresa Trucking. He married Linda Straface in 1988 and had a deep love for his pets. Ron was known for his musical talent, sense of humor, and close relationships with friends including Vance & Beverly Lane, Sigi Holder, Ray Roberts, Steve & Tina Logan, and Lisa Heath.

A Baptist and lifetime member of VFW Post 4372 in Odessa, Ron enjoyed music, especially playing the guitar and singing with his sister Linda Faye. He is survived by his wife Linda Montgomery, son Terry Ray Montgomery, sister Linda Faye Montgomery Maynard, grandson T. J. Montgomery, and niece Laura Maynard.

While no public services are planned, a military funeral honoring Ron will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 10 AM at Resthaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Midland Humane Coalition or ASPCA of Midland.
