Jack Morris, Dedicated Veteran and Athlete, Passes Away at 85

Midland, TX - Jack Morris, born on November 27, 1938, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Jimmy Doyle (JD) and Bess Morris, peacefully departed to his Heavenly abode on June 10, 2024, after bravely battling Alzheimer’s disease.

A graduate of Midland High School and Air Force veteran, Jack settled in Odessa where he worked at the Texaco Gas Plant and later with El Paso Products, which became Huntsman Corporation, retiring after 34 years of service.

Devout in his Christian faith, Jack actively served in various roles in church and enjoyed warmly welcoming and greeting fellow worshipers. As a versatile athlete, he participated in a variety of sports and later enjoyed watching his grandchildren play. Jack also served as an umpire for baseball and softball games.

On April 27, 1996, Jack married Helen Jean Cotten, and together they enjoyed traveling with the Oil City Good Sam’s Club, where Jack was actively involved and served in leadership roles.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerry and Frankie, and stepson Johnny Whitley, Jack is survived by his wife Helen Morris, children Jimmy Morris and Janette Midkiff, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepchildren, and other family members.

A memorial service honoring Jack Morris will be conducted on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Ellis Funeral Home, with Clark Racca officiating.
