MIDLAND, TX - Joe R. Rickey, SMSgt (USAF Retired), age 86, of Midland, Texas, transitioned to continue his service in heaven on Sunday, October 20, 2024. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas, at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 8, 2024.

Born on July 27, 1938, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to Wayne and Lucille Rickey, Joe enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduating from Sayre High School in 1956. With a distinguished 28-year career, he retired as a First Sergeant in 1984. Joe earned numerous accolades, including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars. He furthered his education, holding Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees while dedicating himself to supporting veterans and families post-retirement.

An enthusiastic racquetball player, photographer, and gun enthusiast, Joe was a staunch advocate for Second Amendment rights. A devoted family man, he is survived by his wife, Sheila Rickey, children Michael, Ralph, and Rikki Rae, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grateful for the love and support received, the family requests donations to VFW, Wounded Warriors, or the Arbor Day Foundation in lieu of flowers.
