Congressman August Pfluger, along with fellow Congressmen Mike Flood, Cory Mills, John Curtis, and Andy Ogles, has addressed a letter to the newly appointed Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. The letter urges the Haitian government to expedite the processing and departure of approximately 70 children being adopted by American families. This appeal is part of ongoing efforts led by Congressman Pfluger to prompt action from both the Haitian government and U.S. authorities amid increasing security concerns in Haiti.

The lawmakers expressed their concerns about the safety of these children due to escalating gang violence in Port-au-Prince. They stated, "We are reaching out to you to ask for your consideration and approval for the evacuation of the approximately 70 Haitian children currently in the adoption process with American families, a dozen of whom are being adopted by their Haitian-American blood relatives."

They highlighted that under the Hague Convention for the Protection of Children, adoptions can be finalized either in Haiti or upon arrival in the United States. They further requested collaboration between Haitian authorities and U.S. officials to ensure a swift evacuation: "We respectfully petition for your involvement in the collaboration between Haitian authorities and the U.S. government to facilitate this evacuation immediately."

The situation remains urgent as these vulnerable adoptees face significant risks while waiting for administrative processes to conclude.
