Pedro Rene "Sylvia" Gutierrez | Avalos-Sanchez & Thomas Funeral Home

Midland, Texas - Pedro Rene "Sylvia" Gutierrez, known to many as La Sylvia, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at his residence in Midland, Texas. Born on May 23, 1953, in Stanton, Texas, Rene was raised by his beloved grandmother Maria Postert Reynozo. He had a deep love for plants and flowers, transforming his patio into a beautiful garden that brought joy to all who visited.

Although Rene was not married, he shared a special friendship with Evonne, who remained by his side until her passing in 2014. He will be greatly missed by Diana and Cosme Heredia, who were his closest family and best friends. Rene is survived by his brother, Bobby Garcia, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Rene's love for life during his younger years touched many, and his passion for gardening left a lasting impact on those around him. His kind spirit and appreciation for the beauty of nature resonated with all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Postert Reynozo; his father, Pedro Postert Gutierrez; uncles; brothers; nephews; and his best friend, Evonne Martinez.

A mass and interment of ashes for Pedro Rene "Sylvia" Gutierrez will be scheduled at a later date to honor his memory and celebrate his life.
