Dwight Deon Higgins | Nalley-Pickle & welch Funeral Home & Crematory
Dwight is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, JoAnn (Seaquest) Higgins; his sister Patricia Moore; his daughter Katie (Monte) Sullivan and granddaughter Devyn (Michael) Castillo and great-grandchildren Jaidon, Lily, Avril, and Maverick; grandson Lane (Briana) Sullivan and great-granddaughters Maddyx and Maisyn; and his son John (Mandi) Higgins with grandchildren Colton and Grant.
A dedicated horseman and skilled roper, Dwight's lifelong passion for horses began in his youth and stayed with him throughout his life. His love for horses took him to Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas, where he studied and rode with a renowned group of South Dakota cowboys, leaving behind a rich legacy of camaraderie and horsemanship.
Dwight's educational journey led him to Grandview, Idaho, where he began his teaching career and met his life partner, JoAnn Seaquest. In 1961, they married, beginning an enduring companionship that lasted over six decades.
Throughout his career as a mathematics teacher, Dwight made an impact on students in Missouri, teaching at Gallatin High School and in Mercer before moving to Whiteface, Texas, and later Coffey, Missouri. Retiring in 2003 after five more years of teaching, he and JoAnn settled in Throckmorton, Texas, in 2012, where they enjoyed their later years.
Dwight's commitment to education and dedication to his students stood out to all who knew him. His belief in every student's potential and his willingness to go the extra mile to help them succeed made him a beloved figure both in the classroom and in the community.
A devoted family man, Dwight's love, hard work, and kindness will be fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched. His legacy of compassion and dedication, along with his love for helping others and his passion for horses, will endure in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
