Congressman August Pfluger of Texas and Senator John Hoeven from North Dakota have introduced a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution aimed at overturning the Biden Administration's Natural Gas Tax. This tax was part of the Inflation Reduction Act passed in 2022, which has been criticized by some as excessive government spending.

The new fees on energy companies are expected to increase costs for consumers, disproportionately affecting lower-income Americans. Critics argue that the Natural Gas Tax could negatively impact energy producers in areas like the Permian Basin by limiting production and investment. Congressman Pfluger has been an opponent of this tax since it was first proposed.

"President Biden’s promise to end fossil fuels hurt the hardworking energy producers of my district who have worked diligently to increase production while fueling our allies abroad," said Rep. Pfluger. "If implemented, the ill-conceived natural gas tax will handicap technological innovation, reduce supplies of affordable energy, and increase both costs and emissions. I am proud to lead this CRA to rescind implementation of the natural gas tax."

Senator Hoeven emphasized the importance of affordable and reliable energy for American households and businesses. "The best way to bring down prices for U.S. consumers is to increase supply," he stated. "That’s why we’re working to rescind policies like the Natural Gas Tax, among the many other costly and burdensome taxes and regulations imposed under the Biden administration."

Rep. Jodey Arrington also voiced his support for repealing what he described as unnecessary regulation: "The Waste Emissions Charge is just another unnecessary and wasteful regulation levied by the EPA to go after oil and gas - the lifeblood of our economy."

The CRA is supported by several U.S. Senators including Shelley Moore Capito, Mike Lee, James Lankford, Katie Britt, Steve Daines, Kevin Cramer, Cynthia Lummis, James Risch, Roger Marshall as well as Congressman Jodey Arrington.
