Congressman August Pfluger has cast his vote in favor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025. This legislation aims to restrict participation in women's sports to individuals identified as female based on their reproductive biology and genetics at birth, effectively barring biological men from competing in these categories.
During a speech on the House floor, Congressman Pfluger expressed his support for the bill, stating, "Female athletes should never be subject to compete against biological men in sports, plain and simple." He emphasized that allowing such competition undermines women who have dedicated their lives to achieving athletic success and ignores inherent biological differences.
Pfluger highlighted personal motivations for supporting the legislation by mentioning his daughters who are involved in sports. He remarked, "As a father of three girls who play sports, this issue is very personal to me. I desire to see my daughters succeed in their sports, to feel safe in their locker rooms and bathrooms, and to be protected by their educational institutions."
The congressman criticized a previous attempt by the Biden administration to amend Title IX regulations that would have prevented educational institutions receiving federal funding from banning biological men from women's sports. Pfluger argued that such changes would compromise safety and fairness for female athletes.
He concluded by urging his colleagues to support the passage of H.R. 28, acknowledging Representative Stuebe from Florida for leading the legislative effort.
