Growing up in Graham, Texas, John's academic pursuits led him to achieve advanced degrees from the University of North Texas and Texas Tech University. His passion for learning continued throughout his life, evident in his voracious reading habits and ongoing exploration of history and the stock market. John was a devoted educator in the Midland Independent School District for nearly four decades, impacting students as both teacher and counselor, and later contributing as the president of the Midland Association of Retired School Personnel.
In 1960, John married Shirley Smith, embarking on a lifelong journey marked by love and shared adventures. A skilled craftsman, he poured his talents into their home, creating a warm and beautiful environment for their family. His meticulous craftsmanship extended to their yard, where he cultivated a bountiful garden. John and Shirley's devotion to their family was unwavering, traveling across Texas to support their grandchildren in various endeavors.
A man of deep faith, John was an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and the Keystone Sunday School Class. His unwavering commitment to faith, family, and education left a lasting impact on all he encountered.
John's memory is cherished by his son, daughter, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, and all who were touched by his wisdom, guidance, and love. A celebration of John's life will be held on February 1st, 2025, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. The arrangements are managed by Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home.
