Viola Marie Winn, Loving Mother and Postmaster, Passes Away at 83

Viola Marie Winn, age 83, of Kermit, Texas, peacefully passed away on January 23, 2025. Born on May 9, 1941, in Fort Stockton, Texas, to Juan Moreno and Camila Carrasco Moreno, Viola was a graduate of Artesia High School and served as a Postmaster at the United States Postal Service.

She is survived by her son Johnny Gonzales and his wife Sonya, daughters Clarissa Zimmerman, Julia Roberson and her husband Daniel, sisters Pat Deanda and Lupe M. Pressey, brothers Ancieto Moreno, Johnny Moreno, Oscar Moreno, and sister-in-law Valerie Moreno. Viola is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, granddaughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Preceded in death by her parents, brother Antonio “Tony” Moreno, and grandson Devon Zimmerman, Viola was known for her welcoming nature, being a mother figure to many beyond her own children, and her love for the Kermit community. She enjoyed trips to the casino, dancing, and had a heart full of love for her family and friends.

A Funeral Mass for Viola will be held on February 28, 2025, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Fort Stockton, Texas, with a rosary recited beforehand. Inurnment will immediately follow at St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery.
