Eldon was born on September 13, 1929, in Dawson County to Irvin Eldon and Mattie Mae (Anderson) Welch. Growing up in Martin County, he graduated from Courtney High School before joining the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1953. He married Georgia Ann Glaze in 1954, and they had four daughters: Rosalind, Leslie, Faye, and Kara.
Devoted to his family, faith, and community, Eldon farmed cotton, alfalfa, and raised cattle and sheep. He dedicated over 60 years to First Baptist Church in Tarzan, where he found peace and joy through his faith. As a volunteer firefighter, 4-H Leader, and County Commissioner, Eldon served his community with pride. In addition to being a Master Mason and a member of the Shriners and American Legion, Eldon left a lasting impact on those around him.
Survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, along with siblings, sisters-in-law, and brother-in-law, Eldon will be deeply missed. He found great joy in family gatherings and community involvement, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication.
