Midland - Melva Lu Dixon Calhoun, who lived between December 11, 1935, and January 28, 2025, left an indelible mark characterized by happiness and blessings in the dash that represented her life. Born in Roff, Oklahoma, Melva Lu was the daughter of Lona Norine (nee Heathman) and Melvin Andrew Dixon. The Dixon family originally resided in Kanawa, Oklahoma, where her father managed a fleet of trucks delivering household ice.

During her formative years, World War II prompted the move to Killeen, Texas, then Edmond, Oklahoma, and later to Edmond where she completed high school alongside her brothers, Dan and Drew. Melva Lu graduated from Baylor University in 1956 and subsequently married Gerald George Calhoun, embarking on a life adventure that included military service, travels to Japan, and ultimately settling in Midland, Texas in 1963.

A devout Christian, Melva Lu's faith shone brightly through her varied roles as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother amidst her involvement with the church, community activities, and mission work. She was affectionately known as Mom, Grandmom, and GiGi, adding love, faith, and joy wherever she walked.

Melva Lu is survived by her brothers, Dan and Drew Dixon, her children Steve and Diane Calhoun, Scott and Rebekah Calhoun, and Clay and Julie Calhoun, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all carrying forth her legacy of love, faith, and compassion.

The family expressed profound gratitude to the Hospice of Midland and Helen Greathouse staff for their compassionate care, and to Melva Lu's friends for their unwavering support. In lieu of flowers, donations to charitable organizations she supported are welcomed.

A celebration of life service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Midland on February 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be shared at www.npwelch.com.
