A dedicated student, Sterling graduated from Carver Jr. High School, Midland High School, and Midland College, earning an associate degree in business. His career journey took him through various workplaces, including Dellwood Mall, Kmart, and the Midland Reporter-Telegram. Sterling also served in the United States Air Force, making contributions in central supply.
Family held a special place in Sterling's heart. He shared 22 years of marriage with Rita Young and was blessed with three children. He is survived by Rita and their children: Sterling Lamont Young III, Jeremy Parnell Young (Dani), and Michelle Darden-Jefferson. Sterling leaves behind cherished siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and Aunt Ophelia Hurd and Uncle James Young (Uncle Smokey).
Remembered for his love of his dog, Shadow, deep friendships, and active involvement in Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, Sterling enjoyed simple pleasures like reading, following football and basketball, and frequenting community spots like the Senior Center, Casa de Amigos, and his beloved Whataburger for his morning coffee. An avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and the LA Lakers, Sterling's spirited cheers for his teams were unforgettable.
Recognizing the compassionate care provided by Dr. Early, the staff, and the ICU team at Midland Memorial during Sterling's final days, the family expresses their heartfelt appreciation.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 9:00-11:00 am at Ellis Funeral Home, followed by funeral services commencing at 11:00 am. Sterling Young Jr., known for his vibrant spirit and unwavering love, will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the life he shared with those around him.
