Congressman August Pfluger's Congressional Review Act (CRA) aimed at reversing the natural gas tax has successfully passed through the U.S. House of Representatives. The tax, which Congressman Pfluger argues would negatively impact energy producers in the Permian Basin by hindering production and investment, was part of a broader critique of Biden's energy policies.

Following the passage of his legislation, Rep. Pfluger stated, “In November, the American people overwhelmingly voted for lower energy prices, and today, House Republicans took another step towards fulfilling that mandate." He emphasized that the bill is a move to nullify an EPA rule implementing what he describes as an "ill-conceived" tax on natural gas. Pfluger added his commitment to working toward a full repeal of the statute and continuing efforts aligned with President Trump's energy agenda.

Several Republican leaders have expressed support for Rep. Pfluger's legislative initiative:

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson commented, “Today, House Republicans rolled back the disastrous natural gas tax imposed by Democrats.” He argued that this measure has increased reliance on foreign energy without environmental benefits.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise criticized the Biden EPA’s waste emissions charge as a cost burden to consumers and taxpayers without substantial environmental improvement. He welcomed the passage of legislation to overturn this rule.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer remarked on steps taken by House Republicans to undo what he sees as damage from Biden's administration: “Today, the House took steps to roll back one of President Biden’s misguided rules."

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain stated that passing Rep. Pfluger’s bill will reverse strict regulations and lower energy costs for Americans.

Representatives Brett Guthrie and Morgan Griffith emphasized using domestic energy resources effectively: “It’s time to use the energy resources underneath our feet," they said while expressing gratitude for Congressman Pfluger's leadership.

Representative Troy Balderson praised Chairman Pfluger for his leadership in repealing what he described as a detrimental policy: “The natural gas tax is one of many failed policies...that has raised costs for consumers.”

Earlier in February, Congressman August Pfluger introduced this CRA alongside Congressman Jodey Arrington and Senator John Hoeven to challenge an Environmental Protection Agency charge related to waste emissions from petroleum and natural gas operations.
