The Senate has approved Congressman August Pfluger's Congressional Review Act (CRA), which aims to overturn a natural gas tax implemented during the Biden administration. The legislation, having passed through the U.S. House of Representatives, now awaits the President's signature to become law.
Congressman Pfluger expressed his approval of the Senate's decision, stating, "I applaud the Senate's swift passage of my CRA to reverse the Biden-era's harmful natural gas tax." He criticized Democrats for ignoring facts during the debate and argued that the rule had hindered American energy production and increased energy prices. Pfluger thanked Senator Hoeven for his leadership in advancing the legislation.
The CRA was introduced earlier this month by Congressman Pfluger, alongside Congressman Jodey Arrington and Senator John Hoeven. It seeks to disapprove of an Environmental Protection Agency charge on waste emissions from petroleum and natural gas. According to Pfluger, this tax negatively impacts energy producers in regions like the Permian Basin and raises costs for consumers nationwide by stifling production and investment.
Pfluger has been an opponent of the natural gas tax since its introduction and has written an op-ed in the Daily Caller outlining his stance against it. The CRA received support from Republican leaders and stakeholders in the energy sector when it passed through the House.
