Ted Charles Johnson, aged 97, passed away on October 11, 2025. Born to Arthur Carlos and Hattie Bird Tomason Johnson on October 23, 1927, Ted lived a remarkable life defined by his service, leadership, and generosity to his community and beyond.

A dedicated patriot, Ted served in the U.S. Army, showing exceptional bravery and commitment as a paratrooper during the Korean War. His distinguished military career saw him honored with the Army Commendation Medal for his heroism and service in Korea. Following his military tenure, Ted excelled in sales, eventually becoming a national sales manager at Celotex Corporation before choosing to focus on ranching and other endeavors.

Ted’s commitment to philanthropy and community leadership was evident through his involvement with organizations such as McMurry University, Methodist Mission Home for Unwed Mothers in San Antonio, and Camp Butman Methodist Encampment in Mulberry Canyon. His dedication to these institutions resulted in significant contributions and lasting impacts on their missions.

In his personal life, Ted was a family man, survived by his children Karen Johnson Scharbauer and Bert Glass Johnson, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and his beloved wife, Ann Page, whom he married in 2003. Together, Ted and Ann enjoyed countless adventures, motorhome trips, and philanthropic efforts that touched many lives.

Ted’s commitment to First Methodist Church of Midland, where he held various leadership roles, saw him spearheading key initiatives such as the construction of the Fellowship Hall and gymnasium. His lasting contributions to the church and the community included the donation of the Glass Chapel in honor of his late mother-in-law, Mabel Holt Glass.

A devoted supporter of education and healthcare, Ted’s legacy lives on through memorials directed to Hospice of Midland, First Methodist Church, and the Midland College Basketball Program. The family expresses their gratitude to Hospice of Midland and other caregivers for their compassionate care.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home, with a memorial service scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Methodist Church in Midland.
