Midland ISD welcomed 27,842 students in 2022-23 school year

There were 27,842 students enrolled in Midland ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 5.5% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.2% of them were boys, and 48.8% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 65.9% of the Midland ISD total enrollment.

Midland ISD roughly covers schools within Midland County with its main office in Midland.

Among the 40 schools in Midland ISD, Legacy High School recorded the highest enrollment of 2,504 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
