Enrollment at Kermit ISD schools increased by 8.1% compared to previous school year

There were 1,374 students enrolled in Kermit ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 8.1% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 53.9% of them were boys, and 46.1% were girls.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 83.2% of the Kermit ISD total enrollment.

Kermit ISD roughly covers schools within Winkler County with its main office in Kermit.

Among the three schools in Kermit ISD, Kermit Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 596 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
