MIDLAND, Texas — Rayfield (Ray) Anthony Cooks, born on January 30, 1951, in Mitchell County, Colorado City, TX, passed away after a life filled with travels and friendships. Raised in Colorado City and Snyder, TX, Ray's journey took him to various places across the United States and abroad during his time in the Navy.

Ray enlisted in the US Navy in February 1970, where he served honorably before being discharged. Throughout his life, Ray made lasting connections and counted friends from various cities, including Snyder, Colorado City, Sweetwater, Lubbock, and Midland, where he eventually settled to care for his mother and stepfather.

Ray is preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather, grandmother, aunt, uncles, and nephew. Although he did not have biological children, he was considered a father figure by Shenitrice Golden, Monique Golden Perry, and Lester Morrison. Ray is survived by his sisters, brothers, bonus brothers, nieces, nephews, friends, and his best friend, Alvin (Erma) Silmon Jr.

A wake service in Ray's honor will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Avalos-Sanchez & Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Midland from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A chapel service will follow on Friday, February 28, 2025, with interment at Fairview Cemetery.
