Congressman August Pfluger from Texas has announced the introduction of two new pieces of legislation aimed at increasing pressure on Iran as part of the Republican Study Committee's (RSC) "Enforcing Maximum Pressure" initiative. As the Chairman of the RSC, Rep. Pfluger is focused on holding the Iranian regime accountable through these measures.
During a press conference, Rep. Pfluger said, "President Trump has not just earned our gratitude, he deserves unwavering support as he revives the maximum pressure campaign against Iran's leaders—the world's most dangerous state sponsors of terrorism. The Iranian regime is not just a threat, its leaders are a genocidal death cult. Make no mistake about their strategy—they view Israel's destruction as the beginning of their evil plans."
One of the bills, the No Iranian Energy Act, seeks to halt the importation of Iranian natural gas to Iraq. This move follows the expiration of a sanctions waiver for electricity transmission from Iran, aligned with President Trump’s NSPM-2. The bill addresses concerns over Iranian gas imports, which are significant for power generation.
The other bill, the Iran Waiver Recissions Act, aims to permanently freeze Iranian-sanctioned assets and restrict the President from granting waivers to lift sanctions. In the previous Congress, this legislation received bipartisan support, passing the House with a 259-160 vote.
According to the announcement, Rep. Pfluger's bills are part of a larger package of 11 bills introduced by House Republicans and RSC members. This comprehensive legislative effort seeks to solidify President Trump's maximum pressure campaign on Iran, marking the most stringent sanctions proposal from Congress.
