Michael Lawrence Williams, born on May 31, 1953, in Midland, Texas, is an American educator and attorney. Serving as the former Texas Education Commissioner, he made history as the first African American to hold a statewide elected executive office in Texas. Williams also contributed to the Texas Railroad Commission, overseeing oil and gas industries. A 1971 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Midland, his roots influenced his impactful career. Beyond politics, Williams is a committed figure, serving as an Honorary State Chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Texas and contributing to various community organizations, reflecting his dedication to enriching and empowering children.
