Cedric Myron Benson dies on August 17, 2019

Cedric Myron Benson, born on December 28, 1982, passed away on August 17, 2019. A notable American professional football player, he spent eight years as a running back in the NFL, playing in Super Bowl XLI with the Chicago Bears. Hailing from Midland, Texas, Benson's football prowess began at Abell Junior High School, where he emerged as a standout under Coach Chris McKinney. He continued his stellar career at Robert E. Lee High School, setting Texas 5A records with 8,423 rushing yards. Benson played college football at the University of Texas, earning recognition as a first-team All-American and winning the Doak Walker Award. His NFL journey included stints with the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, and Green Bay Packers. Despite legal troubles, including arrests and a release from the Bears, Benson left a lasting legacy in football. Tragically, he lost his life in a motorcycle crash in Austin, Texas, on August 17, 2019, leaving behind a mentorship program at Gus Garcia Young Men's Leadership Academy in his honor.
