After serving in the U.S. Army, Jim pursued an undergraduate degree at The University of Texas at Austin, followed by his law degree from NYU Law School. He worked at Lynch & Chappell for over 50 years, becoming a name partner, guiding the firm through transformative periods.
Jim's commitment to the Midland community was evident through his involvement in various organizations, including the Permian Basin Area Foundation, Midland Health, and Junior Achievement. He served on the boards of Schreiner University and the Scharbauer Foundation and was an elder at First Presbyterian Church.
Passionate about travel, Jim shared adventures with his wife and family, finding solace on his farm and enjoying quail hunting. He took immense pride in his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, shining with satisfaction at their accomplishments.
Jim is remembered by his sons Devin and Jeff, daughter-in-law Lynn, grandchildren Briggs, Brady, Clare, Anna, and Lucy. He is also recalled by relatives, including brother Bill Alsup, sister-in-law Jean Hazel, and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Pamela, and wife Sandra, Jim's impact on his community and family endures.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 1, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church of Midland. In memory of Jim, donations to Midland Memorial Foundation, Sibley Nature Center, or Schreiner University are suggested.
The family expresses gratitude to Jim's caregivers and Hospice of Midland for their compassion. Arrangements are under Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory. Online condolences can be shared at www.npwelch.com.
